Recently, the School of Overseas Education (SOE) organized the International Students' Classic Poetry Recitation Competition. The event aimed to enhance Chinese expression skills among international students, deepen their understanding of Chinese culture, and promote cultural exchanges between China and other countries.
Fei Jianming, Dean of the Overseas Education College; Jiang Xiaodan, Secretary of the Party General Branch of the Department of Basic Teaching and Physical Education; Zhou Juan, Deputy Director of the same department; and Gao Yang, Director of the Department of Chinese Language and Culture, were invited as judges. They provided professional comments on language expression, emotional performance, recitation techniques, and other aspects.
Following preliminary selections, contestants from Russia, Tajikistan, Myanmar, and Laos advanced to the finals. Participants recited classic Chinese poems such as Qinyuanchun - Snow, Spring River Flower Moon Night, and Farewell to Kangqiao, either individually or in small groups, showcasing fluent language skills and profound cultural understanding. The competition ultimately awarded first, second, and third prizes in both individual and group categories, fully recognizing the outstanding performances.
To further foster a reading-friendly campus atmosphere, SOE also held a “Book Sharing” session during class meetings. This encouraged international students to recommend favorite Chinese literary works and exchange reading insights, thereby enhancing interest in reading and broadening cultural horizons.
The event not only demonstrated the linguistic talents of international students but also built a bridge for cultural exchange, enhancing their sense of identity and belonging to Chinese culture. In the future, SOE will continue to explore ways to integrate cultural education with international exchange and organize more diverse and rich cultural activities. These efforts aim to help international students appreciate the beauty of the Chinese language and understand Chinese culture, contributing to a new chapter in Sino-foreign friendship.
