The finals of China International Students' Innovation Competition 2024 concluded at Shanghai Jiao Tong University(SJTU), with CIIT’s entry,“Yarn Out of the Heavy Siege - Intelligent Pilot of Textile Yarn Drops,” clinching the gold medal. Team members Shen Penghui and Wu Mengye demonstrated outstanding scientific literacy, robust technical skills, and a pioneering spirit of innovation, distinguishing themselves amidst fierce competition, and showcasing the university's educational achievements and spirit.
This year's competition was jointly sponsored by 12 departments, including the Ministry of Education and the Shanghai Municipal People's Government, and organized by SJTU and the Minhang District People's Government. The event adhered to the theme of “I Dare, I Will Create,” focusing on the overarching goals of “More China, More International, More Education, More Comprehensive, More Innovative, More Synergistic.” It promoted the integration of vocational training and general education, industry and education, and science and education, underscoring the pivotal role of higher education in building a strong educational nation. The competition aims to cultivate promising young talents who are bold innovators and continues to forge a world-renowned brand for cultural exchange among Chinese and foreign youth. Over 5.14 million projects and 20.836 million students from 5,406 universities in 153 countries and regions participated in this year’s competition, making it a global innovation event that unites Chinese and foreign nations, thousands of universities, and millions of people.
The gold-medal-winning project from CIIT was mentored by Liu Jinfu, Xu Haixia, and Shen Chenpu. The team spent two years conducting thousands of experiments to develop a new intelligent yarn-dropping robot aimed at addressing labor shortages and the low level of equipment intelligence in the textile industry. The robot features four main functions: efficient and smooth yarn dropping, rapid and precise insertion, autonomous yarn adaptation, and quick scheduling transfers, enabling intelligent yarn management in the complex environments of multi-yarn, multi-model, and multi-workshop scenarios. The product significantly enhances production efficiency, reduces labor requirements, and holds great market potential.
Since CIIT began preparing for the competition in November last year, school leaders have been personally involved, holding regular specialized meetings to strategize and implement preparation plans. Leveraging the university's entrepreneurship and innovation education system, the school meticulously planned and coordinated resources to ensure the readiness of the participating teacher and student teams. Activities such as forums, training camps, and school-level competitions were organized to boost faculty and student engagement in the innovation and entrepreneurship competition. Throughout the preparation phase, school leaders frequently visited the preparation sites to hear the ideas presented by faculty and students, conducted numerous seminars to study relevant matters, and worked to resolve any issues. Under the school's support, the project team united and collaborated, persevered through hardships, actively prepared for the competition, and continuously refined their work, ultimately achieving success.
Moving forward, CIIT is committed to innovating its entrepreneurship and innovation education system, integrating professional education with dual-innovation education, constructing a dual-innovation practice platform, developing dual-innovation resources, and continually innovating teaching methods. These efforts aim to enhance the quality of innovation and entrepreneurship education and contribute to the ongoing improvement of talent cultivation.
