On the noon of May 16th, teachers and students of the pharmaceutical production technology major from the School of Materials Engineering held a fun activity called the "Identifying Medicinal Herbs" Vocational Education Week. Participants were required to judge which type of medicinal herb it is by looking, smelling, feeling and tasting.

Before the event, students majoring in pharmaceutical production technology systematically learned and memorized the names, properties, and functions of 40 traditional Chinese medicinal herbs used in the event by consulting the Chinese Pharmacopoeia 2020 Edition, and made exhibition boards.

At the event, eloquent student masters explained the knowledge of Chinese herbal medicine on site in front of the exhibition board: "This is forsythia suspensa, this is poria cocos, and this is astragalus membranaceus. Each herb exerts different effects due to its different growth, collection, processing, compatibility, and application …” The explanation attracted many laymen. Some stopped to memorize carefully, and others were interacting with the student masters. Those who had answered correctly in the "Smell Fragrance and Identify Medicine" section received small gifts such as honeysuckle tea, floral water, refreshing oil, and traditional Chinese medicine sachets sponsored by Jiangsu Zilong Pharmaceutical.

The fun activity of the Smelling Fragrance and Identifying Medicine vocational education week not only improved the knowledge reserve of traditional Chinese medicine for students majoring in pharmaceutical production technology, but also allowed more people to deepen understanding of the names, properties, and functions of common traditional Chinese medicine. To some degree it contributes to making the vast and profound culture of traditional Chinese medicine known to the world.
