On November 24, the preliminary of the 2025 "I Love Changzhou" International Students' Chinese Speech Contest was held at Changzhou Vocational Institute of Industry Technology (CIIT). Hua Jianyun, Director of the Publicity Department Press Release Division of the CPC Changzhou Municipal Committee, and Zhang Guojun, Zhang Wenjuan, Directors of the Foreign Affairs Office of Changzhou Municipal People’s Government, attended for guidance. Jiang Zhengyan, CIIT Vice President, delivered a speech.
Jiang Zhengyan welcomed the leaders, guests and contestants, noting that Changzhou, an open and inclusive city with profound history and modern vitality, is dedicated to providing quality study and living environments for international students. He emphasized the contest as a key platform to understand Chinese and Changzhou cultures, showcase Chinese proficiency and share local experiences, urging contestants to convey affection for Changzhou through speeches and encouraging all international students to cherish their time in the city, integrate into campus and urban life, and act as envoys for China-foreign cultural exchange.
The contest included themed speeches and on-site Q&A. Centering on "I Love Changzhou", participants shared unforgettable stories and sincere feelings about Changzhou’s history, culture, food, scenery and customs based on their local study, life and travel experiences. Their speeches, filled with love for Changzhou and friendship with China, received warm applause. Myanmar student Ja Seng Tawng said in her speech China in Qingguo Lane:" I was drawn to the old houses when first visiting Qingguo Lane. Walking on bluestone roads felt like being in a costume drama. I also learned to make beautiful combs from craftsmen. So many Changzhou stories here make me love the city deeply."
Awards included 2 first prizes, 3 second prizes, 5 third prizes and several excellence awards.
Co-sponsored by the Foreign Affairs Office of Changzhou Municipal People’s Government, Changzhou Municipal Information Office, Changzhou Municipal Bureau of Education, and Changzhou Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, Television and Tourism, the contest is assisted by 10 local universities and Changzhou International Talent Exchange Center. It covers 11 preliminary divisions (10 universities and Changzhou Municipal Bureau of Education’s middle school group), with first prize winners advancing to the municipal final.
