On December 11th, the finals of the "Third Foreign Education Society Cup" Jiangsu Provincial College Students' Speech Contest took place at Jiangsu Vocational Institute of Commerce. JA SENG TAWNG, known by her Chinese name Yang Yiping, an international student from Myanmar, emerged victorious, securing the Grand Prize. Her outstanding performance highlighted the caliber of students from CIIT, with only five universities across the province earning this prestigious accolade.
The competition was supported by the Jiangsu Society of Higher Education and organized jointly by the Foreign Language Teaching Research Association of Jiangsu Higher Education Institutions, the Jiangsu Learning Platform of Learning Power, and Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press. It garnered significant attention and participation from various sectors. Focused on the themes of narrating hometown stories in a foreign language and sharing China's stories in Chinese, the contest aimed to inspire college students' pride in their local cultures and deepen their affection for China, while enhancing their language proficiency and intercultural communication skills.
Yang Yiping's fluent Chinese and heartfelt delivery deeply moved both judges and audience alike. Her speech, titled "China in Qingguo Lane", vividly showcased China's rich cultural heritage and vibrant folk customs through a detailed portrayal of Qingguo Lane, a street with a storied history. This resonated strongly with the judges, earning unanimous acclaim.
This achievement underscores CIIT's notable success in international education and language instruction, which is expected to further fuel international students' enthusiasm and interest in learning Chinese and exploring Chinese culture, thereby promoting cultural exchange and integration.
